What sets Shingle XD apart from the other DECRA profiles?
Shingle XD is the only DECRA profile that imitates asphalt rather than wood or clay. The other four copy shake or tile.
The panels have thick-cut leading edges that throw the same shadow lines as a laminated architectural shingle. From the curb, the roof reads much like a premium laminated shingle.
Two practical details also set it apart. It fastens direct to the deck, with no battens. It also needs a 4:12 pitch, while every other DECRA profile goes down to 3:12.

Which colors are available for Shingle XD?
We show four Shingle XD colors, all earth and stone tones that sit well beside brick. A few DECRA colors are made to order, so production can run longer. We confirm timing for your color before the job goes on the calendar.

Why trade asphalt for Shingle XD in DFW?
Because asphalt wears out fast here. Shingles often give out within 15 to 20 years under DFW heat and hail, while metal roofs commonly run 40 to 70 years in Texas.
The housing stock makes that matter. The median home in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro was built around 1989, so many houses are on a second or third shingle roof.

For HOAs, Shingle XD is the easiest DECRA profile to defend under Texas Property Code 202.011. The law protects impact-resistant shingles that resemble the approved roof, and this one is designed to resemble asphalt.
How does PMRS install Shingle XD?
We start by measuring pitch on every roof plane, because the 4:12 minimum is firm. Plenty of homes have a main roof that qualifies and a porch or patio cover that does not.
- Measure each plane and flag any section below 4:12 for a different system.
- Remove the shingles and repair the deck so the panels fasten into solid sheathing.
- Install high-temperature underlayment, with self-adhered membrane in valleys and around vents.
- Fasten Shingle XD direct to the deck, course by course, per DECRA’s schedule.
- Finish with DECRA’s stone-coated ridge and hip trim, plus flashings bent in our own shop where DECRA permits.

Shingle XD compared with nearby options

What is DECRA Shingle XD?
It is a stone-coated steel roof panel pressed to look like a thick, dimensional asphalt shingle. Each 52-inch panel carries the look of several shingles and interlocks with its neighbors. DECRA rates it UL 2218 Class 4 and installs it directly on the deck.
What is the minimum roof pitch for DECRA Shingle XD?
DECRA lists 4:12, steeper than the 3:12 minimum on its other four profiles. Porch roofs and additions below 4:12 need a different covering. We often match them with mechanical lock standing seam in a coordinating color.
What colors does DECRA Shingle XD come in?
We show four: Old Hickory, Natural Slate, Midnight Eclipse and Classic Cobblestone. Made-to-order shades need extra production time, and our quote confirms both the current palette and the wait.
Will my HOA approve a stone-coated steel shingle?
It is a strong candidate in neighborhoods built with architectural shingles. Under Texas Property Code 202.011, an HOA generally cannot bar impact-resistant shingles that look like the approved roof and fit the look of the street. Review can still apply, and this is not legal advice.
Does DECRA Shingle XD go on battens?
No. Shingle XD is one of DECRA’s direct-to-deck profiles, covered by ICC-ES report ESR-1754. The panels fasten through the underlayment into a solid deck, so we repair the deck before anything goes on top.
