Fort Worth, TX metal roofs, formed and installed by PMRS

Metal Roofing for Fort Worth’s Older Blocks and Newest Streets

Fort Worth homeowners tend to ask two things first: will metal suit this house, and will it hold up through a North Texas spring? Permanent Metal Roofing Systems answers both on site, whether the house is a Fairmount bungalow, a Tanglewood ranch or a new build in Walsh. Our crews install standing seam, metal shingles and shakes, DECRA stone-coated steel and copper or zinc, along with corrugated and PBR panels for shops and barns. We form the panels on our own machines, either at the shop or on a mobile roll former parked at the curb, and fold the trim in our shop. The city lies roughly 48 miles west of our Mesquite base, so Fort Worth estimates are booked appointments grouped by side of town, and each one ends in a written, itemized price once the roof has been measured.

The Houses of Fort Worth and the Metal Roofs That Suit Them

Census estimates put the median Fort Worth home at 1994, but the city’s roofs really fall into two groups. Nearly one house in five was built before 1960. Many of those stand in places like Fairmount, a National Register district with more than 1,000 contributing buildings from the late Victorian and early 20th century, and Tanglewood, a 1950s ranch neighborhood whose deed restrictions called for brick or stone walls. On older homes we expect steep bungalow gables or long, low ranch hips, and sheathing that may have been patched more than once. At the other end, over 40 percent of the city’s housing dates from 2000 or later, much of it in master-planned communities in far north Fort Worth and on the west side, where original builder-grade composition roofs are now reaching replacement age.

Our Fort Worth work reaches Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights, Arlington Heights, Tanglewood, the Linwood and West 7th area, the Stockyards, the Alliance corridor in far north Fort Worth and Walsh on the west side.

Weather Notes for a Fort Worth Metal Roof

Two storms still shape how Fort Worth thinks about roofs. During Mayfest on May 5, 1995, softball-size hail pounded a crowd of more than 10,000 on the bank of the Trinity River, leaving over 400 people hurt and damage spread across Tarrant and Dallas counties. On March 28, 2000, an F3 tornado touched down near Castleberry High School, moved east along West 7th Street through the Linwood neighborhood and shattered thousands of downtown windows. Hail and wind call for different defenses. Concealed-clip standing seam with tighter clip spacing at eaves, rakes and corners resists uplift, while 24-gauge steel, or a profile carrying its manufacturer’s UL 2218 Class 4 rating, takes impact better. No roof is storm-proof, and damage from either kind of storm is an insurance matter.

  • Metal roofing systems with UL 2218 Class 4 ratings available, with the documentation insurers ask for
  • Photo-documented roof inspections after hail and wind
  • A written, itemized scope you can share with your adjuster

Metal Roofing Systems We Install in Fort Worth

System choice in Fort Worth follows the neighborhood. For historic district homes we bring both metal shingle and standing seam samples to the review, since each district’s guidelines shape what the commission will accept. Tanglewood’s long, low ranch rooflines suit snap lock standing seam, and where an owner is rebuilding at the high end, 16-ounce copper or zinc formed into mechanical lock panels is an option we fabricate ourselves. In the newer north and west subdivisions, DECRA stone-coated steel or an EDCO steel shake keeps the textured look an HOA expects; EDCO rates ArrowLine Class 4. Flat-looking porch and patio roofs get mechanically seamed panels rated to a 1/2:12 slope, and shops and barns get corrugated or PBR.

Standing Seam Roofs

Snap lock and mechanical lock panels with concealed clips, formed in Mesquite or on site and run the full length of each Fort Worth roof slope.

Stone-Coated Steel

Steel panels coated in stone granules for the look of shake, shingle or tile, with impact ratings from the manufacturer.

Metal Shingles and Shakes

Aluminum and steel shakes and slate-look shingles for homeowners who want metal performance without a ribbed look.

Corrugated and PBR Roofs

Corrugated and PBR panels for homes, shops, barns, carports and porches around Fort Worth.

Copper and Zinc Roofing

Natural copper and zinc in standing seam, flat lock or diamond panels for whole roofs, bays and turrets.

Metal Roof Repair

Leaks at seams, screws, pipe boots and flashing traced and fixed on Fort Worth metal roofs, ours or not.

Every Fort Worth roof is priced from its own measurements. The metal roof cost guide explains which choices move the number most, from pitch and tear-off to profile and metal.

Approvals Before a Fort Worth Metal Roof Goes On

The City of Fort Worth’s re-roofing FAQ draws a clear line. A one- or two-family home needs no permit to replace shingles alone, but a permit is required once any decking is replaced, and a re-roof must add crickets and drip edge wherever they are missing. Because we inspect the deck at tear-off, you know right away whether a permit applies. Houses in one of the city’s 14 local historic districts, such as Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights or the Stockyards, need a Certificate of Appropriateness for roofing changes before a building permit can be issued. City staff approve some of these; the Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission decides others at its monthly hearing. In Walsh and similar master-planned communities, the association’s architectural review comes first.

Fort Worth Metal Roof Questions

Does a house in Fairmount or Mistletoe Heights need historic approval before a metal roof?

Yes. Under the city’s preservation rules, any exterior change to a property in a local historic district, including a new roof, needs a Certificate of Appropriateness, and that comes before the building permit. Applications go through the city’s online permit portal. Some are approved by staff, and others go to the Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission, which meets on the second Monday of each month. We provide the product data, color samples and profile details the application calls for.

Can new decking be laid over the old boards on an older Fort Worth house?

Not according to the city. Fort Worth’s re-roofing FAQ says code does not allow a new layer of decking over an existing one. Sheathing in good condition can stay, because a roof that met code when it was built is still compliant, and 3/8-inch panels remain acceptable over rafters 24 inches apart when the span rating is 24/0. Where boards are rotten or broken we replace them, and that replacement is what triggers a permit.

We are rebuilding on a Tanglewood lot. Is copper or zinc practical for the main roof?

On the right design, yes. We form 16-ounce copper and Rheinzink zinc in our mechanical lock profiles, which go over a solid deck at pitches down to 1/2:12. Copper weathers from bright metal toward brown and eventually green, while zinc settles to a soft gray. Many owners put copper on bays, porches or a turret and painted steel standing seam on the main roof, which keeps the character while holding down the budget. We itemize both options in the estimate.

Is the roof estimate in Fort Worth really free?

Yes. We inspect the roof, check the decking and flashing, measure every plane, and send a written estimate that lists each line of the job. There is no charge and no obligation, and Fort Worth is roughly 48 miles from our Mesquite base.
